Dr. Harms has been serving the Farmington and Lakeville communities and his church as a dentist and active volunteer for over 25 years. Dr. Harms was a member of Farmington’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority, the Farmington Community Choir, Farmington Chamber of Commerce (now Dakota County) and the Lion’s Club. He was also a long-term coach for Farmington’s youth recreational programs and Farmington Schools coaching 24 seasons of football, softball, basketball and Odyssey of the Mind.

Dr. Harms was born the 12th child (out of 14) in Blooming Prairie Minnesota. He learned the value of honesty, integrity and teamwork working on his family’s farm. Dr. Harms attended the University of Tulsa, but interrupted his education to join the army during the Vietnam War. He was sent to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey California where he studied German. He was then sent to Military Intelligence School in Fort Huachuca, Arizona where he graduated first in his class. He was assigned to the Defense Investigative Service in Ft McNair in Washington D.C. and continued his education at the University of Maryland, where he met his future wife Kim. Jim and Kim went on to attend the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and both graduated in 1981. They had three children.

After graduation, Dr. Harms went on to serve his country again as a member of the United States Public Health Service and dental director of a rural health clinic in Pembroke Illinois.

Dr. Harms is also a cancer and heart disease survivor. He has worked very hard in the last few years to work his way back to good health and is currently feeling better than ever! His life experience together with his clinical experience gives him a special bond with his patients who are themselves going through challenges in life.

Dr. Carey joined the River’s Edge Dental family in 2008. He brings excellence in comprehensive, cosmetic and implant dentistry with an expansive background of continuing education at some of the most prestigious post-graduate continuums nationwide.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota Dental School, Dr. Carey has continued his post-graduate education with a special focus in the areas of cosmetic dentistry, endodontics, orthodontics, cosmetic bonding and implants. He is one of the youngest participants nationwide to attend the University of Minnesota Post-Graduate Continuum in Esthetic Dentistry, a rigorous one-hundred hour course with a focus on all aspects of cosmetic dentistry. Along with Dr. Jessica, he is also attending courses at the extremely prestigious Las Vegas Institute (LVI) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Carey has also achieved certifications in Lumineers and Invisalign as well as completed a rigorous one-year continuum at the highly regarded South Beach Dental Institute’s Implant Seminar held in Boston. Through this extensive training Dr. Carey has learned the most advanced techniques in implant placement and surgery.

Dr. Carey has set extremely high expectations for himself with regard to the treatment of his patients. His tireless pursuit of perfection through many rigorous post-graduate continuums is evident in the high quality of work seen in the smiles of his patients. He has a strong interest in all areas of comprehensive restorative dentistry and a special interest in cosmetic dentistry.

Dr. Carey recently spent extensive time on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic where he was part of a team of highly trained implant dentists who provided surgical procedures for underprivileged people of the Dominican Republic. Some of the procedures provided were bone grafting, sinus lifts, extractions and the placement of dental implants.

To use the surgical and implant skills that we have spent such extensive time and effort perfecting to help people in need achieve a healthy, complete and beautiful smile was truly amazing. I look forward to the day we can return to help more people in need.”

Dr. Jessica joined the Rivers Edge Dental Clinic team in practice in 2008. She enjoys being at the cutting edge of dental technology, cosmetic and implant dentistry. Her focus is that of comprehensive, cosmetic and implant dentistry.

Dr. Jessica is a graduate of the University of Minnesota's School of Dentistry. She was one of the youngest doctors nationwide to attend the rigorous University of Minnesota's Postgraduate Program in Esthetic Dentistry. She has also attended the Las Vegas Institute (LVI), a year-long implant continuum at the highly regarded South Beach Dental Institute’s Implant Seminar held in Boston and various other training facilities to further her education in the dental field.

Dr. Jessica is a very caring and compassionate person that places her patients oral health care needs above all else. She prides herself in performing gentle dentistry while maintaining a high quality of care. She enjoys treating patients of all ages and providing a wide variety of dental procedures.

Dr. Jessica recently went on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic where she performed oral surgery extractions, bone grafts, sinus lifts and dental implant surgeries for people in need of dental care.

In her spare time, Dr. Jessica enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She and her husband enjoy traveling, bike riding, tennis, golf, and various other outdoor activities.
